Undertaking the Roadway Safety & Realignment Project of Bouquet Canyon Road

The Bouquet Canyon Residential and Roadway Safety Realignment Project was approved by the City of Santa Clarita in November 2020.

The approved project includes construction of a new segment of Bouquet Canyon Road which generally follows the approved General Plan Circulation Element which has been a planned safety improvement since the 1960’s.

This realignment is intended to facilitate safer local and regional travel through a more direct route between Plum Canyon Road and Vasquez Canyon Road.

The approved project also consists of up to 375 for-sale homes along with extensive public infrastructure improvements, including a reconfiguration of Bouquet Creek and its adjacent floodplain to provide flood control within the project and maintain regular stream flows already occurring.

Our Commitment to Neighbors

We understand the work to create the significant infrastructure benefits and improvements for the residents of Santa Clarita that will come with the Bouquet Canyon Roadway Realignment and Safety Project may have some temporary inconveniences for our neighbors.

We are committed to keeping to the schedule and ensuring that we communicate clearly with our neighbors about our progress.  We welcome your questions and feedback. You can email or call us direct. Please allow one business day for us to respond.

BENZ ROAD ACCESS GATE:

As you know, an access gate has been installed on Benz Road to prevent cut-through neighborhood traffic.

Residents in the designated impacted area should have already received vehicle headlamp tags to be able to automatically open the gate for access to Bouquet Canyon Road.  To request vehicle headlamp tags, please complete the request form on the City's website at https://forms.santa-clarita.com/Forms/BenzTag.  Each vehicle must be registered to a parcel address within the designated impacted area to be eligible.  A copy of each vehicle’s registration is required when submitting the request form.

Roadway Work Details

Winter 2026

Work has begun on the demolition of the Bouquet Canyon Road bridge and a temporary detour has been implemented to route traffic around the Bouquet Canyon Road closure.

The roadway closure began February 13, 2026 and is anticipated to last 11 months to allow for this significant roadway safety and flood control channel improvement.

WHY THE CLOSURE OF BOUQET IS NECESSARY

The detour is often perceived as being required only for the construction of the new Bouquet Canyon Road, however, that is only part of the reason. This project also includes construction of a major Los Angeles County Flood Control channel, which is equally critical.

The existing flood control channel that connects to Bouquet Creek beneath the current Bouquet Canyon Road is severely undersized and its improvement will be a long-term benefit to the local community.  As part of this project, the flood control channel will be expanded from approximately 40 feet wide to 120 feet wide, and deepened from about 6 feet to 17 feet. Both FEMA and Los Angeles County Flood Control have identified large portions of the project site, and segments of Bouquet Canyon Road itself, as being within a designated floodplain.

To construct the new roadway alignment, large hillside slopes must be leveled. The soil removed from this work is being placed in the existing floodplain area, raising ground elevations by approximately 45 feet.  As a result, the existing channel must be significantly enlarged to safely convey storm flows and prevent a major flooding risk.

Construction of the flood control channel has already begun, and the channel has been graded. The next critical step is to expand the channel opening to its full 120-foot width. This work cannot proceed without implementing the detour, and the detour will allow this final phase of channel expansion to move forward with the removal of the existing Bouquet Canyon bridge.
